123 Dolphins Die in Texas

All but four of the 123 dolphins that washed up on Texas beaches were dead.  The few that turned up alive, died a short time later, said Blair Mase, the southeast marine mammal stranding network coordinator for NOAA Fisheries.  Officials called this an "unusual mortality event."  The deaths occurred from November through March 2012, a four-month timeframe, although this number is usually a year's mortality rate.

Over 1,200 Dead Pelicans in Peru

After a mysterious mass die-off of over 3,000 dolphins along the northern coast of Peru this year, more than 1,200 pelicans have been found dead in the same region over the past 10 days.  The deaths of the pelicans and dolphins are unexplained.  According to Francisco Nique, president of the Association of Fishermen of Puerto Eten, more than 1,200 dead pelicans were found along 160 kilometers between Punta Negra in Piura and San Jose Creek in Lambayeque.  So far, the pelican and dolphi...
